Video gaming systems have been
around for
over 30 years. They first made their debut in arcades
across
America. Soon after video games became available in a
home
version. The video game fever has only grown and
there does not
seem to be a cure. Kids and adults have
accepted, embraced
and incorporated this form of entertainment into their
lives. |

In 1972 Atari released the
arcade version
of Pong. Other companies quickly followed suit by
producing
alternate video games. The variety of themes for
video games grew.
Arcades catered to children by providing video games,
rides, and of
course the ever popular junk food. The first arcade
games were
about the size of refrigerators. These games required
a quarter to
play. 25 cents bought about 1 minute to 10 minutes of
fun.
The better you were at the game, the longer it
lasted. We wouldn't
call the arcade a daycare center, but five to ten dollars
would keep a
child busy for hours. |

The evolution of gaming
systems could not
be stopped. The high demand for games grew. There
were a number of
reasons the appetite for this type of entertainment
increased.
These reasons included, technological advancements, the
desire by
parents to keep children closer to home, and even the re-
birth of slugs.
We are not referring to the slow and slimy creature known
to gardens.
A slug is the age old enemy of coin operated machines. |
